Jami's Resolution Talk

I've probably mentioned before, I don't do New Year's Resolutions. I did, mostly in the high school years when I had enough awareness of things I needed to change and enough self-determination to actually make changes in my own life. To be honest, I can't even really remember any of the resolutions that I made, so I'm guessing there was nothing life-changing. My thinking in this matter is that if there is something change-worthy, why wait until the middle of winter? Change it right now. Of course, when you are reading this, it probably is around New Year's, but as much I do tend to procrastinate on things, when I decide to do something, I do it now. Pre-pregnancy, I decided to get into better shape. I started on Wednesday in the middle of June. When we made the decision to have another child, we made a plan and started the next cycle. When I chose to change my career, I signed up for very next class. You don't have to wait for a new week or month or year. You don't even have to wait for a new day, do it right now. If it's not something you can just jump into - sit down now - right now- and write out your plan. If I sound oddly urgent, it's because we both know that life is fleeting, unpredictable and so precious. Putting off something that you need or want to do is foolish. There is nothing special or magic about January 1st. Resolutions fail, no matter when you start them, and if you fall down, start again that day, not next January 1st. Instead of resolutions, I like goals. By this time next year, I will have. . . I will be . . . I won't . . . . This is the time of year we tend to take stock of ourselves and hopefully, look ahead. If we made New Year's wishes, mine for you would be: Do that thing you want to do, be the person you want to be. Because you can. Not just the first few weeks of January, but each day. You can do it, today. And I agree with Jim, it's twenty-ten.

Jami Survived Christmas

Actually, I have to say that overall it was a great Christmas. We got to spend time with both families. I volunteered at my church's Christmas dinner, with my parents, as we've done for years. I sang at the Christmas Eve service without fainting and even felt like it went well. I got the Wii Fit which I am loving and will probably blog about. Eddie got a basketball hoop (already up in the playroom) which he's been totally into. He also got lots of Thomas stuff (always exciting) and tons of puzzles, so he's been in three-year-old heaven. He went rollerskating for the first time on Saturday when the weather was unseasonably gorgeous. The Steelers won. On the downside, the Husband injured his back, which led to a leg problem, also. He's on the mend, thank goodness. I'm in the midst of a cold that can't seem to decide if it's getting better or worse. And so we reach almost the end of another year. Shall I wax philosophical about what we've done, or not done, or undone? Probably not. But I may yet. Stay tuned.

And a Happy New Year

Hi folks and welcome to 2007. We ended up hanging up with some friends for the New Years, and had a great all-grown-up time - no one cried or peed themselves, which actually, wouldn't be that surprising for our outings . . . While we're on the subject of 2007, can we make this the year that we take the "and" out of the year name? I'm talking to you Professional Media, politicians and everyone else. The year is "two thousand seven" not "two thousand and seven". The "and" would indicate either a decimal point - 2000.7 or two numbers, 2000 and 7. I don't understand how this started; I mean, did you ever say "nineteen and eighty-four"? Of course not. So knock it off. And yes, I know how nerdy that is, but it's bugging me, so let's all make it our resolution to stop that. That's one you can keep even after you've stopped exercising, restarted smoking and ate an entire cheesecake :D
